EXP 3: Final Model

-
The building is adjacent to Anzac Parade, and is near to the Roundhouse.
It serves to bridge the Roundhouse's 2nd floor to the school, and
to the central pedestrian pathway in UNSW.

A simple staircase connects a rampway to the second floor of
the building.

The rampway starts from the side of the building.

A curved ramp connects the second floor to the
open-air ampitheatre/lecture theatre above.

It is kept in a separate room to control noise should heavy machinery
be used.



Interior of the studio/computer lab.
The prevalence of apertures allow for natural light into the
building, and also relates to the concept of mixing positive & negative spaces.

The bridge.
A simple curve that connects the Roundhouse to the school, which
becomes an extension of it to connect to new spaces.

Staff offices and an adjacent work area.

Central lobby space.
Toilets are highlighted by the red doors.

Study areas for staff and students.
Simple glass partitions separate these zones, which can be
used for meetings or private study sessions.

Gallery space.
Apertures in the rectangular modules used in the
architecture are more common here for lighting effects.


Library adjacent to gallery.

Study area for students, which can double as a classroom.
Color is kept neutral so as to emphasize on the structure and light.



Exterior of building (rear).
A mix of rectangular modules and flat planes used to
define the public and semi-private boundaries.

Outdoor lecture theatre on the roof.

EXP 3: 2 Moving Elements

Moving element: Adjustable Door/screens (open-air)

Located on the second floor of the architecture. These screens can be adjusted to
close the pathway to the open-air lecture theatre, which can help
serve as a barrier if important seminars are held there by indicating
the space as a private domain.






Moving element: Adjustable Door/screens (indoor)

Located on the second floor of the architecture, at the studio.
These screens serve as a gateway into the sheltered studio area, and
are hollowed out to show the semi-public interior. The interior
then becomes a diorama that can be observed by pedestrians above and below
ground.

WEEK 9: THEORY CRAFTING

Keywords: 
1) Concoction

2) Enclosing

3) Aperture

4) Diorama

5) Shelter



Theory: 
With a concoction of enclosures and apertures, the diorama becomes a sheltering space.

(How?)
 Negative spaces in the structure reveal the enclosures within. But like in a brew, they must mix well even if their attributes are different, otherwise it will not achieve its intended effect. The architecture must balance its public and private boundaries, and become a comfortable space representational of its function for its human inhabitants.

WEEK 8: LIGHT RAIL MODEL

Tensile structures hang overhead to provide shade and simplicity to the space.
The space functions for a union between arrival and departure.

There is only one wide platform to facilitate arrival/departure of commuters.
The width and simplicity is a reflection of Teodoro Gonzalez de Leon's wide public spaces.
The textures have been used as reliefs/paintings to highlight the entrance/exit.

Benches are made with a series of stilts, mimicking the use of poles in the light rail stop.
